DRIVERS should pay their car insurance premiums annually rather than monthly by direct debit. Analysis by price comparison website MoneyExpert.com found that paying monthly could cost motorists as much as GBP 182 a year extra. Insurers justify the extra charge by saying that, by allowing customers to spread payments over a year, they are giving customers a loan.
