Allstate

Allstate insurance lines include car insurance, property insurance, life insurance, and commercial insurance. In fact, the company has thirteen major lines of insurance. Allstate also helps consumers with their retirement and investment needs. Today the Allstate Corporation is the largest publicly held personal lines insurer in the United States.

Allstate began in 1931 as part of Sears, Roebuck & Co. William Lehnertz of Aurora, Illinois, was the first person to own an Allstate insurance policy, which he purchased on May 17, 1931. Allstate did not become a publicly traded insurance company until 1993.

For a very short time Allstate was also used as a name for a line of automobiles Sears sold. These cars were not original to Sears & Roebuck, but were rather a renamed car created by Kaiser Motors. Few people remember these cars, for they were taken off the market in 1953. Furthermore, the cars were only sold in a few stores in the southern parts of the country.

Allstate is perhaps best known for their slogan, “You’re in Good Hands with Allstate ®.” In 2004 the company rearranged the slogan to incorporate a question: “Are you in good hands? ®” This question is used in advertising campaigns across the nation. The current Allstate spokesperson is Dennis Haysbert. Today, people across the nation choose Allstate for their insurance company, trusting their “good hands” to take care of their insurance needs.
