IT'S not often I praise a public service. But I must say the DVLA's new way to tax your motor online is heaven-sent.

I've used it myself and can honestly say it works. All you need is your tax disc renewal reminder (V11) and it checks your car is insured and MOT'd.

It brings an end to the days of frantically sifting through drawers at the last minute, shouting: "Where the hell did I put those documents?!"
