Put Driving Safety Ahead of Style

Aug 9, 2007

FASHION-conscious women could be putting other Birmingham motorists at risk by wearing unsuitable sunglasses, a survey revealed.

The report, compiled by car insurance company Sheilas' Wheels, found that less than one in five female drivers in the West Midlands chose a pair of sunglasses specifically for driving.

Three fifths say they opt for style over safety when buying summer shades - basing their choice on appearance rather than practicality.

The report claims many of the current trends are unsuitable for driving because they limit peripheral vision.

Niki Bolton, spokesperson for Sheilas' Wheels said: "Wide arms and dark lens tints may be the must-haves, but fashion-conscious women should put safety before style when in control of a car."
