Death benefits paid that year totaled $156.9 million.\r\n\r\nThere were 5 life and health insurance and 33 property and casualty insurance companies headquartered in the state, as well as others authorized to do business in Hawaii in 2003. In 2001, property and casualty insurers wrote premiums totaling $1.45 billion. That year, there were 41,493 flood insurance policies in force in the state, with a total value of $5.14 million.
