Death benefits paid that year totaled $89.3 million. As of 2000, there were 17 property and casualty and four life and health insurance companies incorporated or organized in the state. Property and casualty insurers wrote over $875 million in premiums. That year, there were 6,586 flood insurance policies in force in the state, with a total value of $815,604.
